You are a jewel, Jennifer!Thank you soooo much.John Aaron Hyde is my 3rd great grandfather by way of Jane Caroline Hyde who married Micajah Merriman Hall and they had a son named James H. Hall who married Cynthia A. Francis.James H. and Cynthia had 2 daughters, my grandmother, Louisa Merriman Hall, and Letta E. Hall.
Atleast he may be, because Louisa M. Hall is verbally reported in my family history and independently in that of her husband, John T. Vickers, to have been Native American. If that's indeed accurate then I'm thinking she may have been adopted 'cause I haven't found any supporting evidence of that.Louisa M. Hall was born May 22, 1866 in Kaseyville, Missouri. If she was indeed part Indian as family history says, this would not have been a good time to be any degree of Indian in Missouri.Missouri was a violent place even after the end of the Civil War, and there was still a great deal of conflict between all the races. The Battle of Little Big Horn did not occur until June 25, 1876, when Louisa would have been 10 years old.She was 15 when Sitting Bull finally surrendered on July 20, 1881;and the massacre at Wounded Knee did not happen until December 29, 1890, about 3 months before she married John T. Vickers.
I'll keep hunting, but if she was adopted I may be at the proverbial brick wall!
Thanks again.
Linda
