Linda,
thanks so much! I have been getting confused, especially as I thought I had discovered "our" Ira Hyde in the 1850 Census in Farmington,Trumbull Co, OH. His family with Mary (Parker) was earlier than Ira D.Hyde/Nancy Laughlin Matthews, so I thought, fine, he could have had two families. But, thinking some more about it, he'd hardly have gone back to living with his "first" wife until the age of 69+, would he?? It's very unlikely he would have divorced his first wife, married again, then gone back to the first one when the other died or whatever - might happen nowadays, but not back then!
Your explanation of several family lines in Trumbull Co makes perfect sense now. I had mistakenly thought that there couldn't be two Ira Hydes in such a relatively small place, though I am realising that Ira wasn't such an uncommon name back then.
I shall have to continue my search for Ira D. Hyde, and I am very grateful to you for telling me about the book about the William Hyde line - I will certainly follow that up.
Many thanks, Chris
