Hi Sue,
Thankyou very much for your reply and it is very interesting to read of your own hyde and wilde conections, my wife and I like a good walk and have picked up the footpath at the side of ferndale(the old ici conference centre now the blue bell centre)walked through to bowlacre farm up through the field through to birches farm and on to the low then past the hare & hounds and taken the road up to windy harbour and back via the cenotaph many times such a lovely walk on a clear day i like the view and try to imagine how it might of looked years ago before such large eyesores as the blue and yellow ikea building appeared on the land scape.
As you too have Wilde connections I shall tell you all that i know of mine, Samuel Wilde married Elizabeth Moss (my gr gr grandfather & grandmother) at Denton Christchurch) 1861 his occupation is stated as hatter maker also yarn, their children are Ann b1862 Ada b1864 Martha Alice b1866 Joseph Thomas b1868(my gr grandfather). Alfred b1870 Hannah b1872 Julius b1876 by 1881 my gr gr grandmother had died my gr gr grandfather is stated as widowed and occupation is stated as pattern maker at iron wks, my gr gr grandfather had remarried by 1891 to a widower called elizabeth Rothwell and the remaining wilde children still living with them were also living with her Rothwell children. they were running the Astley arms in 1891,
My gr grandfather was not present on the 1891 census and we know he was in Brazil by 1892 with his business partner a mr Maskell, here he married Isabella Mcormack of Dundee daughter of David & Margery Mcormack in 1896 Their children being Samuel my grandfather b1899Lesbia Alice b1906 Ada Isabelle b1904 Oscar alfred b1901 Joseph Thomasb1909. when they returned from Brazil they bought 2 houses called high bank which is a small holding at chunal nr Glossop, i have lots more to tell you and bring you more up to date we also have a lot of old postcards from my gr gr grandfather posted to his father from Brazil as well as Canada where he was visiting family which i will investigate further and also the USA,
do drop me a email direct if you can get my email address from this posting as i am a bit reluctant to post everything for public viewing.
Steve.
ps Thomas Moss my gr gr gr granfathers father was Peter Moss his wife Was Martha Moss nee Cook of Denton which i believe the cook family is another old family with ties to st lawrences and the Hydes.
