Edward Hyde is a member of the Hyde family that I have tried to research for about 20 years. My mother was a Hyde, her father was born in Princeton KY.
First, if I may ask you, how certain are you that Edward was the son of Joseph Hyde and his wife Sarah?? I have come to this conclusion as well, but so far have no proof.
If it is true that Edward is the son of Joseph, Joseph's father was Benjamin Hyde and his mother was Leah Lee.
Joseph Hyde was on the census in Monroe Co KY in 1830, Barren Co Ky in 1840, Allen Co Kyin 1850 and Wilson Co TN in 1860.
I believe that Joseph had 2 wives, based on research I did a long time ago. I believe that this is a list of Joseph's children: By first wife
1. Rachel Hyde born c 1824
2. WILLIAM HYDE (this is my line) born 1829. He married
#2 Lucinda Gray who is related to the Gray and Martins
that your Edward intermarried with (she was Lewis
Martin's granddaughter and the sister of Edward Hyde's
first wife Martha ELizabeth Gray)
3. L. Hyde (female) born c1830
with 2nd wife:
4. David Hyde b 1835 m. 1854 Jenetta Ray
5. A. Hyde (male) born c 1837
6. Edward Hyde (1836-1915) m 5 times
7. Joseph Hyde b 1842
8. Elizabeth Hyde b 1845
9. Solomon Hyde b 1850 married #1 1870 Sally W Satterfield
10.Nancy Hyde b 1851
11. Lucinda Hyde b 1854
There are several records in Caldwell Co KY that link my William to your Edward, to David and to Solomon Hyde. Like Edward, Soloman married several times. After Sarah Satterfield, he married Lucy P'Pool (Pettypool) and then Eliza Larkins. There may have been more than just these 3 wives.
WIlliam married #1 Louisa T McDonald in 1852 in Christian Co KY and #2 Lucinda M Gray 1870 in Caldwell CO KY. Lucinda was 8 months pregnant when they married. Your Edward Hyde gave security for the marriage to Lucinda. William died between 1878-1880, leaving Lucinda a widow with 3 small children.
I don't know if I have the complete list of Edward's children. I don't think he had children with all his wives. I have the following:
James W (1872-1931) married Elgie Gray
Katie Green "Kitty" Hyde (1874-1946) m. John Linzy Gray
(John L and Elgie were siblings, children of
Lafayette Gray and Sarah Owens)
Fanny Hyde (1876-) m 1899 WW Whitaker
George W (1880-1961) m Dora M Forsythe
I have proof somewhere in my research that my WIlliam was the half brother of your Edward, and that Edward was the full brother of Solomon. I would be grateful if you can supply proof of Joseph Hyde as their father.
If you are related to the Grays and Martins, I have a ton of proven information about them.
Several years ago, I wrote to someone at the Caldwell CO Historical Society about the Hydes. They sent me the names and address of 2 old sisters living together in Princeton who were descended from Solomon and Lucy P'Pool. I wrote to them to ask about the potential relationship of SOlomon to my William, and after a long while received back a letter saying to the effect that "sometimes its best to let the past stay past". I have never located a living descendant of these Hydes who would share information. My grandfather's family was extremely close mouthed. Lucinda Gray Hyde went to Dallas Texas with her 3 children after William died and our branch of the family stayed there. Lucinda died in 1917, her eldest child Mary Jane Hyde Campbell (died 1919) had 7 children but only 3 lived to marry, they were all female and I have never found descendants.
Lucinda's only son, Robert Louis Hyde, had 6 children, but only one, a daughter named Inez, married and had her own family; Robert died in 1916 and all the other children died either before marriage or childless.
My grandfather, Thomas Floyd Hyde, was the son of the youngest child of Lucinda and William, John Thomas Hyde. John T had 6 children with 2 wives, and although I met them all except one when I was a child, they never told me anything of value as an adult. My grandfather died in 1971, and his daughter (my mother) died in 1972. After that we had no contact with the Hydes.
