Caution! Information, as given to me, is posted here. Documentation, such as is known, is posted. I am trying to prove/disprove this information. The direct line that I am pursuing is in bold print
Important: See this first email which I received from Hikaru on December 22, 1999.
Now see this second email from Hikaru.
1 Richard (The Immigrant) Hide/Hyde b. 1610/11, probably England
There are three (3) immigration records for Richard Hide/Hyde to Virginia in this time frame. It now appears, based on Hikaru's email, that #1 and #3 are the same person. It remains to be seen if #2 is related.
1) Hide, Richard, (age) 24, Virginia, 1635,1635, 9151, p105 1
August 21, 1635, to be embarked on the George for Virginia: Richard Hide, age 24
2) Hide, Richard, (age) 24, Virginia, 1635,3283, p125 1
"Subject, Richard Hide, Citizen & Free Mason, of London; Symon Hide, Citizen & Free Mason, of London, one of the sons of the said Richard Hide.
Whereas, John Hide, one other sonne of your Subject, Richard, was about two years since by ill persuasion & advice of one George Brown, Citizen & Poulterer, of London, & others being drawne & persuaded to depart this Kingdome & goe beyond the Seas to Virginia.
Dispute about payment for boots & shoes.
Deft, George Browne.
The answer speaks of the good ship Abraham, of London, of which John Barker was master & that he sailed to Virginia 17 Oct, 1635." From" The Virginia Magazine"; : Hide v. Browne)
3) Hyde, Richard, no age, Virginia, 1638,2772, p174 1
Hyde, Richard, 1638, By Edward Minter, James City Co. 2
Still trying to find documentation to prove which of these 3 Richards is the ancestor of the line below. Per Hikaru's email, they may all be the same person who immigrated about 1635 at the age of 24.

"The Hydes of Northampton County" paraphrased from the North Carolina Genealogy Society Journal May 1994:
Richard Hyde was hired by James Colbert as a "Licensed Indian Trader." Richard's father, also known as Richard Hyde, had also been employed by Colbert as a packhorseman. The elder Hyde was a former pirate and member of Blackbeard's gang. Hyde quit his life of piracy when Edward Teach (Blackbeard) was killed in 1718. While escorting the Superintendent of Indian Affairs through Creek Territory, both the Superintendent and the elder Hyde were severely beaten and disfigured by some Creek warriors when they were caught in bed with the Indians' wives.
According to 'History of the North-American Indians' by Adair, p.151:
"The Muskhoge lately clipt off the ears of two white men for supposed adultery. One had been a disciple of Black Beard, the pirate...."

The family was born and raised in Surry County. The question is who are the kids mother. There are no marriage records for either wife. Court records only speak of the as Mary. But if you look at some other records you know they were married. When I collect this much data I move onto the next family, looking for my Winefred Lucas who married Jesse Oslin.

IGI Record: Mildred Avent born about 1746 Northampton County, North Carolina-Father: William Avent Mother: Sarah Massey
(If this is correct, Mildred Avent could not have been the biological mother of the children listed herein, as IGI records record their birth from about 1745-1759, although the records say the parents were "Richard Hyde IV and Mildred, they also say of Northampton County, North Carolina." I believe that the information used for these birth records was after the fact, as it seems the children were actually born in Brunswick County, Virginia based on Richard's location in the court/land records below.)
IGI Record: Mildred Avent married about 1767 Richard Hyde of Northampton County, North Carolina (If this is the same Richard Hyde, then the date is obviously wrong on this since Richard died in 1762)

Cheatham County was erected on February 28, 1856, out of parts of Davidson, Robertson, Dickson and Montgomery counties and was named in honor of Nathaniel Cheatham, speaker of the Senate at this time. Early settlers located along the streams. Benjamin Darrow located his home near Sycamore Mills about 1790. About the same time John Hyde and Howard Alley settled near Pleasant View. In 1796 a settlement was made at Ashland City by Robert Heaton and Braxton Lee. For the protection of the settlers against the Indians a blockhouse was erected at Half Pone.

Family story is that Nancy converted to Mormonism. Edmon and Nancy moved from IL>MO>IL>KS>IA>MO. Finally, in Glenwood, Iowa, she put her foot down and said "if you want to go to Utah, go right ahead. I'm staying here."
In 1847/48, Edmon was in Missouri, as Semira was born there. They probably went with the Freemans, who were in Jefferson, Andrew County, Missouri in 1850.

Richard Hyde operated Hyde's Ferry
From: Northwest Davidson County, The Land-It's People: by John P. Graves, S. Hamiton Rd., Nashville, TN 37218:
"Hydes Ferry - the first ferry (1848) was little more than a small flat boat pulled along on a wire by hand. This was before the locks and dams were built. It probably started operating in the early 1840's. The river was very shallow at certain times of the year. Later Richard Hyde built a larger boat to accommodate traffic. The old Hyde's Ferry Pike later connected with the new Hyde's Ferry Pike about 100 yards west of the Cedar Grove Church in Bordeaux."

Laura,
Thought you might like to add Avarilla Andrews as wife of Richard Hyde (will Northhampton, N.C. 1784). She is dtr. of William Andrews (will Northhampton 1771 names Dtr., Averilla.) On Dec. 22 1794 Averillah Hyde witnessed will of Abram Andrews, her brother (Franklin Co., N.C.). Also was involved in a case in Franklin Co in 1802, Richard Andrews vs.Avarilla Hide.
If you know anything of the Andrews, would love to hear from you.
Patti Andrews
