Hello Pat,
This is getting interesting and I would love to know more about your Marland to Hyde connections. I have just been doing some tidying up and found on a scrap of paper:- John Hyde =Margaret Marland 25 Oct. 1835 at Manchester Cathedral. Anything to do with you?
Several of mine got married at the cathedral. My gr.gr.grandfather married his second wife there in 1827 though he lived and worked around Denton at the time as a Master Hatter.
I have noted lots of the Alt Hill and Hartshead Hydes from St. Michael A.u.L because way back my bunch from Denton and Haughton used St. Michael's a lot and it was'nt always easy to sift out mine from the others. There was a string of them between you at Park Bridge and A.u.L and Stalybridge. I had some at Taunton, Three Tree House and Knott Lanes, moving down to Audenshaw. Like your earlies, we were in Haughton by 1450, Hyde and Denton much earlier. I would love to know who the first Hyde was around Park Bridge. Was he recognisably a Hyde of Hyde I wonder.
I have been researching them for ten years now. I amsure that you have enjoyed "England in Ashton under Lyne" by Winifred Bowman. I have a copy of her earlier book, "Five Thousand Acres of Old Ashton".
Are you local or living elsewhere?
Can we exchange more news by email off Genforum?
I live near Oxford and try to get up to Hyde and Manchester once or twice a year if I can.
My grandfather had a brewery in Oldham and I have just had published a little history about by Neil Richardson.
I look forward to hearing from you again,
Sue
