Even More Hyde Confusion
Hello, I had thought that my great grandmother Sarah E Hyde was the daughter of Anthony Gray Hyde and Mary Margaret Pleasant Hyde, however in looking at more records more closely they can't be the same person.Sarah J or Sarah G Hyde was living with Anthony Gray Hyde as a single 22 year old on the 1880 census. My great-grandmother Sarah E Hyde Lewter was married for 4 years by then, marrying my great grandfather in 1876 on Christmas eve.But I can't find my Sarah in any records other than those connected to my great grandfather.I have their marriage certificate, their death certificates, their appearances together on census records and her information she gives while filling out a widow's application to keep a veterans pension going as she was destitute after her husband died. From this data I gather she at least thinks she was born in Ark. she was 58 years old as of Sept 1913, she lived in Texas 53 years and in Smith county 50 years which I gather means she came to Texas by 1860 and moved to Smith county by 1863.She first married a man whose last name was Franklin as she was Mrs S. E Franklin when she married my great grandfather.I know for sure that she was a Hyde because my grandfather her son says so, and that is what he filled out as her maiden name on his SS5 forms when he signed on for social security. But where in Arkansas could she have been born and to whom and why do they not appear on the 1860, or 1870 census records?Sigh, I hate this kind of brick wall.I have been pounding my head agains this one for 30 years and thought I had solved it with finding a Sarah Hyde nearly the same age as the daughter of Anthony Hyde and now I am back to square one.I hate that.
