I borrowed the Jackson book from the NEHGS years ago and copied the pages that have to do with Jonathan and his brother.
I was born in West Newton MA and on one of my trips back to that area, I took time to visit the Jackson House. I also talked to a very knowledgeble lady from the historical society who told me about Cottom Street cemetery where some of the early Hydes are buried. It is the cemetery mentioned in Jackson's book. The oldest grave in the cemetery is that of Mary French Hyde. It is a little,lop-sided slate marker that says:
MARY HIDES
WIFE OF JONATHAN HIDES
AGED 39 YEARS
DYED MAY 27 1672
Jonathan is not buried there because he died in Canterbury CT. There is a Samuel Hyde there who was a soldier in (I think) the French and Indian War. Except for Mary, all the Hydes that are buried there died over a hundred years after Jonathan lived there.
I too have seen the Hyde history in the Ancester File. Ever since I saw it, I have been suspcicious of the link between Jnathan and Samuel and this family. My fears were confirmed by a post to this forum. You may be interested in it. It is post number 2027. I suspect the early history of the family is correct. However I seriously doubt that Samuel and Jonathan belonged in that family.
That leaves us still searching to place these men in England.
