Hope,
I twice tried unsuccessfully so send this to your e-mail address. I hope you read it - maybe we are related, somehow?
My heart gave a little jump when I read that there was a reply to my Philip Hyde b.1837 message, but then I relaxed again when I read your actual message. You see, this Philip is one of those 'mythical' ancestors we pursue to find the loose ends of previous generations. Sadly all I know about him is his Irish based data and even that I had to dig-up because all my father knew (or wouldreveal) was that his uncle "left Cork". That was a euphemism for the fact that he walked-out on a wife a three/four daughters!
I have no idea where he went to and while it could have been New York I don't know. However, if you find out more about the Philip you're interested in, you might let me know. This Philip was a Carpenter by Trade and also made furniturewhile in Cork City before he 'scarpered'. His Harness-maker brother John arrived in Westfield MA, in 1877/8. I paid a 'shoots' visit to Westfield recently and really had as much fun as emigrants' descendants have when they come on roots visits to Ireland. One thing I found was that John's brother, Tom, was also there for the 1885 Baptism of John's second son but he later - whenever? - returned to Ireland. One thought I had had on discovering Tom's US visit was that he might have gone in pursuit of their older brother Philip. But that is pure speculation.
Why are you interested in Philip Hyde, Hope. If I can help in anyway I will be happy to do so. I have hundreds of Hyde-families in East Co. Cork and Cork City. I describe myself not as being into genealogy but rather that I am hooked-on-Hydes - especially the Cork ones.
I look forward to hearing from you again,
Sincerely, Tom.
