Hydes in upstate NY
My grandfather (Benjamin Michael Hyde) was born in New London, NY.His father (I'll get the name later) and uncle (John T.S. Hyde) operated a road construction company in that area and around Rome, NY.Ben Hyde became a dairy farmer, with a farm in a wide spot called Coonrod (about 5 miles outside of Rome, NY.) My dad, Harold J. Hyde, was a bank manager in Rome for most of his life.
Where I draw a blank is the family's origins before New London.I have no names or locations.I don't know if Ben Hyde's father was an immigrant or had been in the US for generations.I also don't know where his ancestors came from. It could be England, Ireland or Germany. If anyone could shed light on this, please contact me.
