Gayle I read your posting and was so excited as we must be related. My grandfather, James William Hyde came from Cobh (pronounced Cove)in County Cork and I believe there is still family there or at nearby Youghal (pronounced y'all) and was in the merchant and Royal Navies. I'm not sure of his DOB but he married my grandmother Mary Wilson and they settled for a while in Northumberland, in the Newcastle area and eventually moved to Bedford. My Father, another James William Hyde was born in Newcastle in 1916 met my mother Florence Drage in Bedford when he was on leave from the Royal Navy and as my mother came from Kettering in Northamptonshire our family settled there. I was born in 1942 (James, William, again with a Patrick added at the request of the Irish nurse that delivered me) in Kettering on St Paddy's Day and I too joined the Royal Navy, married in Cornwall and had three children the eldest (you guessed it) James was born in Wynberg South Africa, Steven was born in Penzance in Cornwall and my daughter Sharon in Kettering where I settled after my 9 years naval service.
I got divorced and met my new wife Karen and have settled in Brunswick, Georgia since February 2000...it just took this branch of the family a little longer to get here.
Just as a further check...I believe my Grandfather mothers nee name was Bush..oh..by the waymy eldest grandson who was born in 1984...his name is...James
As far as we can track..every one in the family going back to my great grandfather was a first born James.funny how the same names have a habit of recurring . The family were Catholic, I'm sorry if I have waffled on a bit too long but I was so thrilled to see your posting 'cousin'. Please contact me at [email protected] I'd love to hear from you and anyone else that may be related.
Jim (James) Hyde
