Hello Steve
I've rung my mother to see if she can remember anything about her grandmother's family. She can only remember that her grandmother (Charlotte Alice Hyde) began work at an early age - this is borne out by the 1881 census for Charlotte Alice Hyde and her family at 51 Guide Lane. She vaguely remembers an aunt Rebecca Ann, who lived to a great age.Unfortunately my mother's family moved to Leyland in the 1930s, and my mother lived all over the world after her marriage and so lost contact with many of her relatives.
The information I do have about Charlotte Alice Hyde is that she was born July 28, 1868 to George Hyde and Elizabeth, formerly Handford, at Guide Lane, Hooley Hill, Ashton under Lyne. Her father was a Blast Tenter. The family were still at this address in the 1881 census (I have the CDs if you need a printout of this), and when she married my greatgrandfather, John Herbert Dean, in 1890.
Do you have Tom's birth certificate? This would confirm as to whether he was Charlotte Alice's brother or not.
My e-mail address is [email protected]
I hope this is of some use.
Vivien
