Frances/Fannie Hyde (widow) SF/CA 1880
The schooner Fannie A. Hyde was probably built either in San Francisco or somewhere on the Northern California Coast.I have been interested in learning more about who and when the Hyde was built because of a family connection. My great-uncle J.W. Jespersen was master of the Hyde for several years and was probably on board in 1886 when it was wrecked at Point Arena on the California coast north of San Francisco. The ship participated in regattas that were sponsored by the ship masters, and was first in the race of July 4, 1885 with J.W. Jespersen commanding. My grandfather, Soren, was also a ship's master and sailed various schooners in and out of San Francisco Bay.J.W. Jespersen died and was buried at sea, my grandfather may have been on board the Hyde when in went aground at Pt. Arena. He retired from the sea and lived and ranched there until he came to Oakland, California in 1902 in ill health where he passed away.
Hyde family members in S.F. in 1870 were from Ireland, N.Y., MD., PA and VT.My check of
the 1870 California census did not show anyone with the name, Frances or Fannie.
