Hi Darlene
My Huttons were from Co Antrim,Ireland. My grandfather was a Hugh Hutton born 1878 and his father was a Hugh Hutton born 1841, both in Co Antrim. Co Antrim is the next adjacent county to the east of Co Derry in Ireland. Throughout most of the Irish records of that time, the name was spelled "Hatton" even tho the oral history says it was Hutton. I am in the process of tracking a "McElhatton" from Derry who may have become a Hutton in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania,USA. I have lots of James' and Hughs in our line.
Do you know the religion of your Huttons in Derry ? It's important when chasing Irish records. My Hutton/Hattons in Antrim were Catholic but there were also Protestant connections. Also, Protestant marriages were recorded in Civil Registration starting in 1845 where Catholic marriages were not recorded in until 1864.
Let me know what you think of this
Rick Hutton
