My paternal grandmother Laura (Douglas) Hutsell secretly married Floyd Hutsell (Hutsel) around 1900. She was teaching near Fort Wayne, Indiana and he was attending a music school paid for by his father. They slipped across the border, probably into Michigan to marry but were found out and Floyd's father refused to pay for the rest of his son's schooling.

I am interested in tracing the Hutsell/Hutsel/Hutzel family to see if there is a German connection. I was told the name was originally Pennsylvania Deutsch. I am especially interested as my (soon to be accepted for publication) children's novel, The Magic Bugle, tells the story of a boy who time travels from my home town Cobourg, Ontario, Canada to medieval Coburg, Germany. My publisher is keen to know if I have German roots.
