Jonathan Hutchison(b 1821) in Wayne Co, Ohio), son of Jimsey and Rebecca Peppard,married Hannah Firestone (b 1844), in Fredricksburg, Wayne Co, Ohio. In 1862, he enlisted in Co I, 32nd Regiment of the Iowa Volunteer Infantry at the age of 42. His 17 yr old son, Mathias (b 1845) enlisted with him. On 7 Apr 1864, Mathias was killed in the Battle of Pleaseant Hill, LA. while under the command of his father, Capt. Jonathan Hutchison.
Jonathan was promoted to Major before he was mustered out in 1865. He died in Ft Dodge, Iowa, from "chronic pneumonia" brought on in Colorado, where he was attacked with "mountain fever." He and Hannah are buried in Oakland Cemetery, Ft Dodge, Iowa. They are my great-grandparents.
