Below is the transcription of Jonathan HUSTED's widow's pension application. I have edited out a bit of the "legaleze", but all the information is here. HUSTED, JONATHAN STATE: NY Series: M805 Roll: 458 Image: 623 File: R5438 Declaration In order to obtain the benefit of the act of Congress of the 7th July 1838 entitled(?) an act granting half pay and pensions to certain widows. State of New York Greene County On the 17th day of September in the year 1845 at a Circuit Court, general Sessions file at in the village of Catskill personally appeared Ephraim Husted a resident of the town of Cairo … aged forty-seven years, doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the provision made by the act of Congress passed 7th July 1838 entitled an act granting half pay and pensions to certain widows. That he is the son of a Mary Husted widow of Jonathan Husted, who in the Revolutionary war resided in Dutchess County and was a private Soldier in defense of his Country as he has often heard his father say that his the said Jonathan Husted first was engaged for the term of Nine months in Captain Livingston Company and afterwards he has always understood he engaged for a shorter term in the same Company and was stationed on the frontiers of the River Counties of the State of New York until discharged. He further declares that according to the best of his recollection he has also heard his father say that he afterwards entered in the service of his Country in one of the New York Regiments of the Continental lines as a private Soldier but in what Company and for what length of time he does not recollect, but believes the Services of his father during said war would amount to under two years as a private Soldier. He further declares that he believes his father the said Jonathan Husted afterward was married to Mary Smith of the town of Cairo in said County of Greene on the 16th day of June in 1787. That the ceremony was performed by the Rev. Elder Tabor, then a clergyman of the Baptist Church in said town of Cairo. That his father and mother after their marriage continued to reside in said town of Cairo until the day of his death which took place on or about the 15th day of August in the year one thousand eight hundred and twenty-one and left him surviving the said Mary Husted who continued to be a widow until the Seventeenth day of August in the year one 1845 – When his mother the said Mary Husted died also in said town and left her surviving the following named children widow Hannah Vining widow of David Vining, Sarah Wright widow of George Wright and Benjamin, Ephraim, Abraham, Thaniel (Daniel?), George and Jonathan Husted who are her only surviving children. He further declares that he knows of none living to prove the foregoing Statement of his father’s services in the revolution neither does he know of any documentary evidence to prove any of the foregoing statements except the ____ leaf of his father’s family Bible containing the births of his children which he believes is the only family record kept by his father in his lifetime. He further declares that since the death of his father his mother has several times expressed a desire to make application for a pension but was unable to procure proof of her husbands Services in consequence of old age and infirmity. Sworn to and Subscribed in open Ephraim Husted Court on the day and ___ aforesaid Notes this ___ Thaniel _____ Amasa J. Parker Circuit Judge State of New York, Greene County Sarah Wright of the town of Cairo County and State aforesaid being duly sworn deposeth and saith that she is fifty-two years of age and is a daughter of Mary Husted deceased who was the widow of Jonathan Husted. That her father the said Jonathan Husted has often in the presence of this deponent stated the events of the revolutionary war and according to the best of deponent’s recollection he has often stated that he has been a Solider in defense of his Country but for what length of time and under what officers deponent does not recollect, but remembers to have heard him say that he resided in Dutchess County on the east side of the Hudson River. Deponent further saith that after the revolution her father the said Jonathan Husted moved into Greene County in the town of Cairo and was legally married to Mary Smith deponents mother – that they continued to reside in said town until the day of her fathers death which took place more than twenty years since and that her mothers the said Mary Husted died on the 17th day of August in the year 1845 and left her surviving the following married children widow Hannah Vining widow of Daniel Vining, Sarah Wright widow of George Wright and Benjamin, Ephraim, Abraham, Thaniel, George and Jonathan Husted who are the only surviving children of her mother the said Mary Husted… Sarah Wright ************** The following births are transcriptions of photocopies of the Bible pages: Hannah Husted born March 30, 1788 Sally Husted born October 5, 1793 Benjamin Husted born December 7, 1794 Phebe Husted born December 31, 1796 Jonathan Husted Junior born October 29, 1795 Ephraim Husted born March 29, 1798 Abraham Husted born March 13, 1800? Note: several of the zeros in these dates appeared so narrow as to possibly be misread as “1’s” , but the dates I have recorded are the only ones that make sense.
