As an update to my previous message:
I now know that John arrived in Britain from Germany (possibly Heldersheim (Hildesheim?), Hanover - but no confirmation of this yet) before 1861.
His father is named on his marriage certificate of 1885 as also being called John Hurwitz (deceased) from Germany.Possible birth date 1800.
He lived with (but did not marry) Emma Rich (nee Brayfield) with whom he had three children - John (a Captain with the Royal Engineers), Clara, and Frank.
He later married Jane Batt (nee Clutterbuck) in 15 Oct 1885.They had two children - Minnie and Julia
Anybody who has any further information on John - ESPECIALLy any details relating to his life and family in Germany, would be appreciated.
I have also been told there is a possible link with the following:
* Adolf Hurwitz, 1859-1919.Professor of Mathematics
* The "Hurwitz trio" - internationally famous(?) classical musicians
Anyone with any information on the family trees of Adolf and/or the Hurwitz trio, please contact me!
