The early migration is German, the one mentioned in the other post, Nicholas, came about 100 years ago, (she doesn't know where he came from). But, I did see a mess of Hurtigs in IGI, and they came for the most part from Switzerland in the 19th century.
The family I am researching had name spelling change with every record: Hurtig, Hurtick/Hurlich, Hordig, Horduck, Hartiegh, Artwick, and so forth. The sons all served in militia against the crown.
The father/immigrant must have died by 1790 census since only one Johannes appears, and he has a family that best fits the son/immigrant.
Some could have gone north, but I see no Loyalist indications in the papers I have on this family. The married-ins were also interested in becoming Americans. Thanks for your input.
