Hello Michele. My name is Lisa Insunza...birth name Felicia Schmitz. I'm Steve's aunt and the granddaughter of Oscar. My mother, Gloria Hurtado Schmitz, was his daughter. I found you message very interesting and informative...especially about the club. My mother was 42 when I was born and there wasn't a lot of contact between she and my grandfather. I didn't meet him until I was about 12 years old. He had long since stopped playing the marimba but took the dust cover off of it and played for us in his living room in his Noe St. apartment in San Francisco in 1977 (or thereabouts). He passed away in 1982. From what I understand, his second wife donated the marimba to the marimba museum in Guatemala. There are cousins in the Bay Area. We spent Thanksgiving with Theresa and Angela (I think they may be your level) this year. My sister went to college at USF and has made her home in the Bay Area as well. I live in San Diego where I was born and raised.

I'm glad we were able to touch base with another member of the Hurtado family. Maybe would should try to get a reunion together for the decendants of the Band. I only know a few stories that my mother told me. Like the time the Band played poker with Jack Benny after a show. I think that was when they were still back east, because my mother was still a child. Anyway, hope to hear more.
