The "Hurt" surname DNA project will accomplish several things: 1. Find out which Hurts are related 2. Then find out how close the relationship is within generations 3. Help researchers kick over brickwalls We now have two participants. The first is James Hurt who descends from James Hurt and Elizabeth Morris (married Dec 1786 in Halifax Co., VA. James and Elizabeth had one child born in VA and three others who state they were born in SC with one other female that we have found nothing on. All these children were listed in Elizabeth Hurt's will date 1856 Garrard Co., KY. The second participant is Reed Hurtt who descends from Joseph Hurt, Jr and Mildred Burnett of Wayne Co., KY. Joseph came to KY by way of VA, SC and into KY. Obviously, we want to find out if these two Hurts are related plus, hopefully at some point, find out if James Hurt is the missing brother of Joel Hurt who died SC 1846. The only qualification you must have is to be a male descendant carrying the Hurt surname as it is the Y Chromosome being tested and that is passed from father to son with a mutation at about 500 generations. We are first testing at the 12 marker which will establish a relationship and that test is $99. If there is a relationship then some of us will want to test at the 25 and 37 marker which will show how close the relationship is. We have a website that you can join and order kit or view results once they start coming in. Website is http://www.familytreedna.com/public/hurtfamily. We invite all Hurts to join with us in exploring this new science. Thanks Sandy Notify Administrator about this message?
