I am waiting for a second reply from a Henry Poole that has a well documented web site that lists the marriage bet. Wyche and Hunt.Hopefully he and one of his contributors will have some insights that will give us some clues.
So far the marriage would appear to be circumstantial at best but certainly arguable.Henry Wyche has a dau. Sarah with a son Henry that he mentions in his will of 1714.In Gheesling's manuscript she mentions in a 15 Sept. 1707 survey, "I find no patent for this land, but 1718, Wm III did get a pat. for this amount and it seems to have been inherited by his son Henry.") So William III did have a son Henry. Then there is a quote on Genforum under Goodwin #4682- John Goodwin-John and Sarah were defendants in a suit brought by the estate of Wm. Hunt of Surry 15 May 1728.Also in the PG Co., Wills and Deeds by Weisiger, May 10, 1728, Charles Holloway of PG to John Goodwyn of Surry, land in Martins Branch, PG, 100a to be laid out of land left to John Edwards and Charles Holloway by their Father and is all of that part left to Charles Holloway.May 10, 1728 delivered to Goodwyn."
Consensus seems to be that Sarah Hunt relict of Wm. III m. Goodwin so it would appear that Wm. Hunt III was married to a Sarah. As I understand it, Wm. III died intestate therefore his wife wouldn't have been known?
So.....In 1714 there is a Sarah (Wyche) with a son Henry.
1728 there is a wife Sarah and a son Henry of a
Wm. Hunt.
To your point how many Sarahs with sons named Henry were there in Surry County in that 14 year period?Since Sarah's father was named Henry and the first son was named Henry, one could speculate that there is a relationship there as well.Maybe there were just too many Williams Hunts running around. So, now we have narrowed the odds ever further to a grandchild named after a grandfather.
I obviously can't answer the question as to how many Sarah/Henry mother son combinations in the right time frame with a parent/grandparent named Henry existed in Surry Co., VA bet. 1714 and 1728, but if I were a betting man I wouldn't take odds against it.
If Henry Poole has some definitive answers, I will let you know.
