George Henry Hunt: b. MS, 1863, d. 1913, AR
Looking for George Henry "Babe" Hunt, b. somewhere in Mississippi, 4 July 1863.
I have located G.H. on the Jefferson County, Whiteville twnship, Arkansas Census for 1870, part of the house hold of S. E. Hunt, 40 yr old wht F. b. in Georgia; brother William O., age 10; G.H. age 7. Both boys b. in Mississippi.
I can't find anything on a Papa for the boys. Nothing. No name, record, nothing on S. E.'s full name, maiden name, anything.
There is a Jas. Hunt listed for the next house hold on the same Census; he's 24, b. in Georgia as well; married to a Susan, a baby less than a year old named Henry.
I spotted another record for a possible link on the 1860 Census in Mississippi, Yalobusha County, Oakland township/post office.
There is a John L. Hunt, 35, b. in GA, married to Susan, 30 (right age) b. in GA as well; however, there are several children listed in the house, too, the youngest being 8 years of age.
John is listed as being a grocer on this Census.
The next definate record I can locate on George Henry is the 1900 Census for Jefferson County, Vaugine twnship, Arkansas.
He is now married w/ a family of his own started - including my great grandfather, Jesse James Hunt.
I know George Henry was a member of the Woodmen of the World organization; his occupations include butcher and farmer, both; he died in October or December of 1913; he married Ida Belle Tucker abt 1884. Her Mother's maide name was Moran, I was told. I think they came from Jefferson County as well.
I have run up against a brick wall to find out anything further back than this information.
I would really like to find out who his parents were, if possible.
The only other possible items of information I could add are as follows:
My grandmother said that Uncle Jim had slaves - she thought he might have been George Henry's brother - the slaves were buried on one side of the family farm's cemetery, & the whites on the other.
My grandmother took my Mother to this cemetery when Mother was a little girl - 10ish, in the early 1950's.
Mother says there were enormous Oak trees grown over the grave sites then. To my knowledge, no one living recalls the location of the graveyard.
My Mother says she knew there was a connection somehow to Georgia.
Any help anyone might be able to offer would be greatly appreciated. Please post or e mail me.
