Allen,
My hopes are to definitely look into the larger lines as well. My goals right now are to help untangle a few misconceptions about the Virginia Hunts and claims to the Hunts in North Carolina. Those particular Hunts in NC are claimed to be of the Ralph Hunt line from Long Island. (At least, that's what I think they are telling me!)
My Hunt line in Preston County can't be this line. Someone somewhere along the line (pun intended!) jumped to an easy answer and connected us to a James Hunt from Granville, NC. I don't think that to be correct.
I asked for the specific lines I listed for the purpose of sorting out a few serious researchers on some serious lines... the Ralph Hunt one included.
I would also like to start nailing down the England link so we can finally say, "Ah-ha! It *is* true!" :)
The James Leigh-Hunt line is really important to throw into the mix not because of a direct line being presumed, but because of the interesting religious link to the Hunts that came into Hopewell, NJ and Philadelphia. These guys were Quakers/Friends and at some point, THEY made the move southward to Virginia and North Carolina, and south-westward through Maryland, Virginia, etc.
As a point of history, one of these Hunts was a John Hunt that was in the original group of 'Virginia Exiles' moved out of Philadelphia into Virginia, near Winchester during the outbreak of the Revolution. That John Hunt died in exile, away from his home.
The same problem that you mentioned exists for John and James Hunt in my line. When you look around 1750 for a probable birth date, you find all kinds of them... all over the place! My line being especially religious, we have John Wesley, Thomas, James, Levi, etc. etc. all through the lines. (Along with some really obscure biblical names, too!)
With all that said, it might be important to have you included in the study at some point if you are interested. Your line may prove to be a surprise to us... and at the very least, may help all of us eliminate links that we shouldn't even ponder as possible. (Sometimes, 'elimination' is as valuable as 'finding'... although not nearly as satisfying!)
