First off thanks for your interest in DNA Genealogy.
DNA test in question is called Y-DNA. It is a direct paternal test. Another word the participant would have to be a male in direct line with the Hunt surname.
First I have to say test not cheap enough for mass population. There are two places I would recommend they are Family Tree DNA and Heritage DNA.
For reference check this site out. http://www.dnaheritage.com/ydna.asphttp://www.dnaheritage.com/ydna.asp
The Hunt surname project at Family Tree DNA(FTDNA

Cause of the number of people known on anonymous databases online a person could start out with a 12 marker test. If you should match someone 12/12 marker then perhap try for a more refined test. Right now 12 marker will be enough to prove disapprove relation to what available.
There are currently 4 different group of Hunts on Ysearch.org. Ysearch.org is sponsored by FTDNA.

On this database 2 are from England, 2 from Ireland, 2 from south Carolina, and one from early 1800 Georgia.
Knowing that Hunt surname is one of the top 50 most popular surname in USA it heartbreaking to know only a few Hunt have completed this test. In long run this test could help a lot of people find a direction to search when hitting a brick wall doing conventional Genealogy.
One thing I found through a more refined test of 25 marker or more is that I descended from Scottish heritage and not Irish as my father always told me.
