Dear Mark,

My great grandmother was Philip & Dorothea's daughter Anna. She came to Detroit in 1929, and we're still here. The Macoupin County Genealogy website (through Rootsweb.com) has your great grandfather Phillip's 1907 obit on line. It's a very interesting site.

I am curious to learn more about the Hunsinger's life in Alsace, when they came to the U.S. (it's said 1847), etc. Supposedly they owned a vinyard in the old country.

Unfortunately, GG Heid was not the first Lutheran school teacher in the U.S. I don't know how that got started, but I've heard it too. He is listed in the book, "Zion on the Mississippi" as one of the settlers to Altenburg from New York.

I'm happy that you've responded! I wasn't aware that Josephine was still living; glad to hear it! If all this family stuff interests you, I could pass on what I know.
