A short biography of John Hunsberger is included in "Montana, Its Story and Biography", Vol 3.
John was raised and educated in his boyhood home and at the outbreak of the Civil War he enlisted in the Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry with which he served until the end of the war. He then came west to Fort Benton, MT, and was employed as a clerk for the American Fur Company. He was later elected treasurer of Choteau County, MT, and served several terms. After leaving office of County Treasurer, he became proprietor of the Overland Hotel until 1889 when he bought the Grand Union Hotel which he managed for several years. For several years he was in the saloon business at Great Falls, MT, and then in the saloon & hotel business at Blackfoot, MT. He died there in 1899 at age 59.
John's wife, Ceciel, was born 1840 in Sioux City, Iowa. Children: John, Isaac, Thomas, Clara.
