HUNDLEY / HUNLEY HELP ~ MISS, AL, GA
Please help me straighten out the ancestry of Elmira Marshall Hundley...supposedly the daughter of Henry Jennings Hundley (born abt 1780) and Mary Ford Anderson. Someone suggested that Henry is the son of Joel Hunley (born 1729) and Caroline Jennings but the dates don't add up...would make Joel Hunley way too old. I know there was a Joel Jr. that married a Elmira Marshall, dau of Solomon Marshall of AL and all of these people are listed on the 1840 Clarke Co, Ms census right next to each other. Elmira Marshall Hundley married Benjamin Franklin Haynes (They divorced / seperated mid 1860's and she's lost after that), son of Henry Haynes (and Rebecca Tatum) who is also on this census. Someone suggested that Henry Jennings and Joel Jr. were possibly brothers but I'm wondering if Joel Jr. was really Henry's father and maybe was married to Ms. Jennings prior to Elmira Marshall ? Our family says that my GGrandmother Mary Marshall Hudson was given the family name of Marshall and supposedly went back to the Chief Justice John Marshall. I believe this line of Solomon might do that and there is the Elmira name in close proximities here....can someone help me make heads and / or tails of this mess? "My Elmira" was born abt 1826 and the Elmira married to Joel Jr. (Dr. Joel) was born abt 1799. Elmira married to Dr. Joel also had a dau Elmira born abt 1842 so she wouldn't have been the mother of my Elmira though my Elmira might have been named after her as a step-mom or possibly aunt. Elmira seems to me to be clearly a Marshall family name even what I assume is another brother CJ Hundley had a dau Elmira....I'm close...I can feel it!!!
