My grandmother was Barbara Molnar Kovacs/Kovach. She was born in Tisza-Keszi, Borsod Megye, Hungary in Sept. of 1887. She married my grandfather, Janos (John) B. Kovacs, born in 1881 and from the same village, in 1906. My grandfather came to the US in 1908. We have his passport, military record, and naturalization record. I believe that my grandmother came in 1910. Her brother, Imre (Jim) and his family also emigrated from Hungary. The men came first and later sent for their families. The Molnars and Kovacs' entered at Ellis Island at different times, then lived in Berlin, Maryland where they worked in a cannery to earn money to send for their families. They later lived around Pittsburgh, then made their way to Logan Co. WV to work in the coal mines. On her death record, my grandmother's parents are listed as Emory and Elizabeth Laurens Molnar. Please contact me if any of this information is familiar to you and if you have anything at all on this family. Thanks!
