Gregory: Theodore Anton Tausch was born in Innsbruck, Austria and was christened at the Wilten Basilica in Innsbruck. His brother, Josef Walther Tausch was born two years later in 1883 and was also christened there. I sent to the Archives in Innsbruck and they went copies of the christening records (in German). I had them translated by two people and they concur that their parents were Josef Anton Tausch (a notary..like a law clerk) and the mother was Frau Josephine Pfefferkorn, of Dalaas (region). I have a picture of Josef, Theodore, and their mother taken at a studio in Bruneck and the boys appear to be about 8 and 10 years of age or so, taken probably in the early 1890s. Theo was a bookkeeper (for Marshall Fields in Chicago for awhile) but they moved a LOT and they were in the Denver area when he left home to find jobs(this was during the Depression). I found him in the 1930 census in San Francisco, CA, not with the family. The oldest children, Sid and Diana, both had to quit school and go to work to support their mom. My husband is Robert, Diana's son. Diana would be your grandpa Ted's sister. Theo hunted snakes and sold them to make a living. I have some articles about his snake hunting that appeared in various papers. I would be happy to copy and send any info or pictures you would be interested in. Gene Tausch sent me pictures, so if you know him he would be a great source. Theodore died in 1950 as the result of an auto accident in Florence, Arizona. I recently found out that Josef Tausch who came to America in 1909 with Theodore (after they went home for Eugene to be born in Austria) lived the rest of his life in New Jersey as a clerk. He states he was divorced in the 1920 and 1930 census....Rahway, Union County NJ, living with Lewis and Katie Schaffner as a boarder. He states on his 1918 WW1 draft registration that his nearest relatives are a dau and son in Bruneck, Tyrol, named Hertha and Walter.
He died in 1936 after being hit by a truck early in the morning near the rail line where he worked. Strange ending to two brother's lives. e-mail me if you'd like....gbrandt7@aol.com
