You wonder how it got so confused in only the space of one generation. When I told my mother and aunt they were slovik, they didn't believe it, until I showed them the census. They said, no. My mother still when talking about nationality to someone, she will say she's Russian, not slovik. But I do know now that they were Rusyn. My grandmother always said my grandfather's people were Austro-Hungarian. Born on the border.
