Jack,
We have talked off line and I am beginning to think that your John C. (J.C.) Humphries, father of Bradley, was a child of Charles Bolivar Humphries. You think J.C. was born about 1856.He cannot be a son of John and Piety Humphries in that case.I'm pretty sure big John was dead before 1850 when his wife Piety (as P. Humphries) was listed as head of household in the 1850 White Co. census.Even if he were alive, Piety was 58 years old when J.C. was born, and so it was biologically impossible (at least back then) for her to be J.C.'s mother.
In the household of C.B. and M.J. Humphries in the 1860 census of White County, a male child named "J." shown as four years old is listed.Perhaps he is your John. The White County marriage records show that Charles B. Humphries and Mary J. Smith married in White County in 1855 (the other possible C.B. Humphries married Pocahontas Perry in 1853--wrong initials for this couple to be them).
Is there anyone who is descended from the Charles Bolivar Humphries family that lived in White Co. Arkansas in 1860 who might be able to confirm or deny this?I have tried to find Charles Bolivar in later White County censuses, but so far have had no luck.John C. is in the 1880 and 1900 censuses of White Co., in Coldwell Twp.
