Wylie,
Thanks for your interest in doing the testing.I will get in touch with you off-line and give you contact information for Mike Humphrey who is the project administrator for the Humphrey(s) Familytree DNA project. It would be great for a couple of people like you and Charlene B.'s relative who have well-established lines back to Charles and Mary Bennett Humphries to test. Both of you should have Humphries Y-DNA so you should match each other and also the cluster of Brunswick Co., VA Humphries descendants that have already tested.
If my understanding is correct, you and Charlene B. link up to Charles Humphries who married Mary (probably) Bennett.Charlene B. is descended from their son Absalom and you are descended from their son Charles.Your line down through Charles and his first wife Betsy Williams is documented in Brent Holcomb's book about the Humphries family.Charles's second wife was Elizabeth Martin Holland. It was the transcription of her will that started this thread! But she and Charles had no children together.Absalom is mentioned only briefly in Holcomb's book, but the line is well known from the pension record Absalom left from service in the Revolutionary War.
My family group is descended from the first Charles's brother William. They were two of five sons of John and Mary White Humphries of Brunswick Co. Va.William went to NC first and ended up in Johnston (later Wake) Co.Brother Charles followed him and actually bought the land that he lived on in NC from William.Like Charles, William also went to western SC after leaving NC.His family settled in Pendleton District, which is not far from where Charles Humphries settled in Chester District. So far two descendants of William have matched someone for whom we have been able to construct a good paper trail back to Charles. But a match with a couple of known descendants of Charles would be conclusive to bring the families together.
It has been stated in the past that William, son of John and Mary White Humphries, went to Onslow Co. NC after leaving Va. and that the Humphries family there is descended from him.I think the Onslow Humphries may be connected to the Brunswick Co. Va. Humphries somehow, but a carefully gathered paper trail and now DNA evidence support the idea that John and Mary's son William went to Johnston/Wake Co. NC and then western SC, rather than Onslow Co.
