Some further info re the New Zealand born children of David J.H.HUMPHRIES and Mary HUMPHRIES (nee STEVENS):
Amelia Mary (Millie)HUMPHRIES born 4th qtr 1878 at Feilding; died 4/1/1948 at Palmerston North, was buried Terrace End Cemetery. Millie was married twice: to William CREIGHTON in 1900 place unknown(William died 1927); Millie married George McNeil in 1936 place unknown.
Frederick William (Fred) HUMPHRIES born 1st qtr 1880 at Feilding; died 1969 at Palmerston North, was buried Kelvin Grove Cemetery. Fred married Edith MURRAY in 1905 place unknown.
Edith Mabel HUMPHRIES born 23 Dec 1882 at Feilding; died 10 Mar 1957 at Stratford, was buried at Hawera Cemetery. Edith married James L. CARTER 26 Aug 1903 at Rongotea, Feilding.
David Horswell(Dave)HUMPHRIES born 2nd qtr 1884 at Feilding; 2/1279 Private HUMPHRIES D.H died 26 Mar 1920 http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sooty/NZDeathsAL.html
Percival Alan (Percy)HUMPHRIES born 3rd qtr 1885 at Feilding; died 30 Mar 1931 at Palmerston North, was buried Kelvin Grove Cemetery. Percy married Mina (Minnie) VOSS in 1908 place unknown.
Gwendoline Elizabeth (Gwen) HUMPHRIES was born 24 Jun 1895 at Waimea South; died 1972 place unknown. Gwen married Walter H. JORDAN in 1914 place unknown.
As well as their own offspring, Dave and Mary apparently raised three children whose fathers were relatives(?) of Dave (Snr).
Am uncertain if Bert, Ada and Vera were legally adopted by Dave & Mary or not:
Alfred Cuthbert (Bert)HUMPHRIES born 4th qtr 1881 at Auckland was the son of Job HUMPHRIES and Elizabeth HUMPHRIES nee unknown. Bert died 1905 place unknown. Bert married Harriet FULLJAMES in 1902 place unknown.
Ada Vera HUMPHRIES born 2nd qtr 1888 at Mataura was daughter of Charles HUMPHRIES and Ada HUMPHRIES nee BOND. Ada Vera died 3 Jan 1955 and was buried Karoro Cemetery, Greymouth. Ada Vera married John C.B. COULSON 1905 place unknown.
Walter John (Wally) HUMPHRIES born 4th qtr 1896 (Greytown Nth?)was the son of Francis HUMPHRIES and Emily HUMPHRIES nee KEMPTON. Wally died 8/10/1917 NZ War Death Index 1914-1918, Reference: 7490 http://www.cwgc.org/search/casualty_details.aspx?casualty=433185
It appears that, after the birth of Percy in 1885 at Feilding, Dave (Snr) must have relocated from the Manawatu to the South Island around 1886-87 with his wife and family. Daughter Gwen was born 1895 at Waimea South (Nelson?)Later, old Dave must have returned to the North Island. I know that old Dave worked in Jimmy Carter's Hawera bakery at some stage before he retired/died in Feilding, so obviously he came back from the South, presumably prior to 1803, when my grandmother, Edith HUMPHRIES, was married at Feilding.
Pity the marriage indexes don't indicate where each marriage took place. If anyone can clarify dates, places, or other details, I would be most grateful. Thanks, Peter.
