William Ford died on Oct 6, 1817 Spartanburg SC. He died Intestate which was very odd as he was an attorney which we just recently found out. His son, my ancestor, Manley Ford was the administrator of William Ford's estate. Manly Ford was named administrator of his father William's estate in 1819. Manly was sued by William's second wife, Margret "Peggy" and her children for a share of William, Jr., Culvin and Shadrack's part. This suit was dismissed,as Manly argued sucessfully, that Culvin had legal heirs (children), and that Shadrack's share should only to to "full heirs" not the half siblings. There was no proof that William Ford, Jr. was dead. (It seems he had married and moved to Benton/Calhoun Co. AL if descendants are correct on this, later on my part of the Fords also moved to Benton/Calhoun Co. AL where descendants have continued to live since 1845.) I have nothing on the Ray/Rae family except this tidbit on Alexander Ray. He must have died a short time after this, as Elizabeth remarried to Armistead Shumate by 1798. Spartanburg County, South Carolina Minutes of the County Court 1785-1799 Brent H. Holcomb C. A. L. S. (page 223) Thomas Price against Alexander Ray. Petition. The Defendant by information of Manly Ford, confessed judgment for L 8 s 10 d9 according to Specialty, the note bearing date 6 May 1796, and costs of suit, with staying Execution untill 1st Oct. next.
