My Humphries can be proved to Samuel Humphries, Lancaster, SC in the late 1700s. Samuel Humphries was from Wales (not documented) and had a brother. The brother is not named. Samuel was married to Sarah Baskin and had five known children. All were born in Lancaster Cty., SC. (1) Claudius, b. 1797-99 (2) Samuel, Jr., b. ca. 1800-1810 (3) Anna, b. 1800, md. Elisha Harris (4) Cynthia, b. date unk, md. Lewis Blackmon before 1829, and 2nd to Washington Long before 9/4/39 (5) Calvin, b. 3/8/06 Samuel Humphries Jr. died in Southern Alabama. We are not certain what happened to Anna, Cynthia or Claudius. My Gt gt grandfather Calvin migrated from South Carolina to Harris, County Georgia, then to Coosa County Alabama. I still have relatives in the area. Around 1883 three of the brothers, James F., William A. and Marion C. Humphries left Alabama and migrated to west central Texas. About 1890 my Gt Grandfather James F. moved on to Indian Territory. He is buried in Lebanon, OK. My DNA matches include a Humphreys and a Humphrey but we've not yet been able to connect our families. If any of the above looks familiar to you please contact me. James F. Humphries Notify Administrator about this message?
