Ok, now I see how you connect!
Cicero Humphreys b: 1838 MS who married 16 Mar 1858 (Book M: pg. 94 # 313) Wilkinson Co., MS to Josephine Cory, she the daughter of ? & Esther Cory.Cicero Humphreys d: 1 Jul 1862 at Gen. Hosp. #13 in Richmond Va. in the war.He was a member of Co. D, 21st MS Infantry.Josephine Humphreys rec'd Confederate Pension Warrant # 4144 on 15 Mar 1894 for his service
Cicero & Josephine Humphreys had
1) Martha M. "Emma" Humphreys:
who married Nash McCarthy, and I believe Nash was the son of Lewis McCarthy that married Elizabeth Jackson. My Nathaniel Humphreys married Emily Jane Jackson, the sister of Elizabeth Jackson!Believe that Nash & "Emma" had a daughter Elizabeth "Betty" who married Monroe Welch on 13 Feb 1896.Monroe & Betty Welch are buried in the Cory Cemetery.
I did not pull but a few records when I visited the Wilkinson Co., MS Courthouse but I did take a few notes.
Robert Humphreys m: 1 Jun 1883 to Annie Coon Book M: # 6
Robert P. Humphreys married Cornelia Hastings Book M: # 5
Wilkinson Co, MS Courthouse Notes:
Mrs. C. Humphreys 1879 (5) AA: 62
Josephine 1879(5) AA: 555
Josephine 26 Jan 1885 (5)374
Cicero Humphreys(3) 79, 171, 191
Wish I had taken more notes but I was rushed that day.So your David C. Humphreys b: 1862/3 was the youngest child of Cicero and Josephine Cory Humphreys, right? His father died in the war right before he was born and he never really knew his dad, right?
I think I have it straight.Your proof and more info. is in the Wilkinson Co., Miss. Courthouse.Cicero & Josephine likely have estate papers.Judy Hodges likely still lives there in Centerville, Miss.and she still has family in the area and knows a lot about the gravesites. You need to take a trip there.
I have most of the marriage records of the kids of Jehu P. Humphreys but I never pulled a copy of Cicero's.Many of the kids married before they were "of age" as their Dad Jehu had been murdered and mom Elizabeth signed her consent for them to marry. My Nathaniel G. Humphreys was the oldest of the kids and he moved across the Mississippi to Pointe Coupee Parish, La.If your David C. Humphreys ever wrote his Uncle Nathaniel Humphreys a letter--- I would have a copy.I'll go through the old letters and check but "David" does not ring a bell as far as the old letters go.
Your Cuz
Pauline
