I am currently researching my family whose Canadian roots are in Sherbrooke, QC. They arrived there from Ireland around 1840-1850 and start showing up in the census data in 1851-52.
Here are the names of my ancestors who were in Sherbrooke:
William Humphrey - my great great great grandfather 1794-1860 and his wife Ann Simonon 1809 - 1870.
James Humphrey - son of William and my great great grandfather (aprox.) 1832 - 1904 (died in B.C.) and his wife Matilda Hanna Fitzmartin 1836 - 1880 (died in Sherbrooke).
James left for British Columbia with 3 of his sons in the early 1880s, after the death of his wife and their lineages are all well traced. However, the whereabouts of his other children's families remains a mystery.
There was a William E. Humphrey (b. 1858) who appears to have stayed in Sherbrooke after his father left and married Elizabeth (b.1859) with who he had 9 children. John Lindsay Humphrey (b. 1862), Susan A. Humphrey (b. 1865) who married Edwin Scott and Sarah J Humphrey (b. 1870) who probably married a Thompson and moved to Toronto. The three sons who moved to BC were James Alfred, Frederick Lawford and Thomas Charles.
If you have any information regarding any of these people, I would be extremely grateful to be able to share facts with you in the hopes of filling in some blanks. I am particularly interested in the children of James who stayed in QC or any info on his wife (M. Fitzmartin).
