I no longer have the info on this family, but if my memory serves me Charles is a brother to my ggrandfather Joseph McConnell Humphrey of Bluegrass, Knox County, TN.If so, they some of the children of Elijah Humphrey. As I recall this Elijah was the son of Elijah who married Nancy Wilhite and came to Knox County about 1850 by way of Sneedsville, Hancock County, TN.
This information was given to me a number of years ago by Pearl Humphrey, widow of John Humphrey, another brother, also of Knox County. From what I understand, Elijah (jr.) and Joseph are buried at Ebenezer Cemetery in Knoxville, although I found no tombstone at the time.I did, however, find the tombstone of Harriet Letitia Medlin, Jospeh "Joe" Humphrey's wife.
Family lore says that Elijah (jr.) was married at least twice...the second time to a Native American woman (whose name might have been Sarah) and that in his old age, he lived at the Poor Farm in Knoxville.
John, Charles, and Joe had a sister Sarah, I believe too...who married a Russel Haun around 1898 or so.I found them on the census on Euclid Avenue on the 1910 census, with my grandmother Bessie Lee Humphrey listed as a boarder.
Bessie also shows up on that same census with her father Joe and sisters Minnie and Grace.
Please check and see if any of this matches what you have.
