I ran across this while looking at census records and it is the first time I have seen the name of Newton Hummer. This one obviously is prior to yours born 1878, but since he is next door to Benjamin 34, Emily 32, Martha 10, Mary 8, Rachel 6, Levi 4, and next one might be Tatura? 2 perhaps he is related in some way to Benjamin?

1850 census Loudoun, VA Series M432 Roll 957 Page 316 Image 1: Who is Newton Hummer? He is 46 White Farmer $2000 b VA and wife is Betsy 44 F. There were others listed in the household but I didn't jot those down as they had a different last name.

Benjamin had a brother named William but I know nothing about him. They were two of seven children born to Levi Hummer and Martha Bridges. Could the William be John William? There was a John B. Hummer, brother of Benjamin and William, but sometimes families did name more than one child by a first name. It is something for you to consider.
And I know nothing about John B. either.

Is there possibly a naming pattern in what you know about the children of John William and Mary Elizabeth Keene? That is another possible lead.
