I am not related but if you are trying to help with Swedish research, also post on the Sweden forum. Type Sweden into the "Jump to Forum" space at the top right of this page.

Emibas CD:

Emibas was made from registrations in the Swedish parish to go to a foreign country. It is about 75% complete.

Strangely, I see this man and not Carl August on Emihamn. Perhaps an error was made.

First name: JOH W E
Last name: HULTGREN
Age: 22 Gender: M

Port: GÖTEBORG
Date: 1882 10 13
Destination: NEW YORK

I don't see Otto Alfred either. Transcribers on these cds do make errors, however and errors might also have been made back in 1882.

The actual handwritten record from which Emibas was made can be seen on the fee-based Genline site.

http://www.genline.com

This is the specific page which is sourced as page 568 in the household examination rolls for Döderhult. It can be found on Genline using this page number.

GID # (Genline Identification Number) 17.43.28500

There is a long comment which might explain the missing Carl August on Emihamn but I can only read parts, such as "the wife" and "the husband". Ask for help reading that comment on the Sweden forum.

Carl August Hultgren and Johanna Fredrika Aronsdotter are listed as having been married on 5 November 1881 in that handwritten record. Johanna Fredrika Aronsdotter came in at the time of her marriage from page 566 in the same record book and there the child Hilma Sofia was listed as her illegitimate daughter. Johanna Fredrika was listed as a piga = maid on that page.

GID # 17.43.28300

Moving back to GID # 17.43.28500 :

Higher up on the same page I see another Hultgren family.

Carl Johan Hultgren, born 6 February 1816 in Dhult, which is most likely the priest's abbreviation for Döderhult parish, married 15 December 1849

wife Anna Lena Carlsdotter, born 17 June 1824 in ibm (short for Ibidem which is Latin for the same place, so she also was born in Döderhult parish, it seems)

children:

Nanny Sofia (with some words following which I can't decipher), born 5 May? (June?) 1850 in ibm, died 24 June 1875

Carl August, born ? August 1852 in ibm

Oscar Fredrik, born 28 May?? 1855 in ibm

Emeli Christina, born 1 November 1857 in ibm

Johan? Viktor Emil, born 22 March 1860 in ibm

Otto Alfrid, born 19 February 1863 in ibm

Emma Fredrika, born 8 December 1865?????????????? in ibm

The above record covers 1873-1882 and I don't have time to see if there were more children or to follow their many moves from one page to another. Records are plentiful (although not easy to read with this priest's writing) but it takes time to go through the records and record the information. I suggest that your friend join Genline and also use the Sweden forum.
