I found my grandfather's notes regarding Hulsey's who lived in Oklahoma, and the counties they lived in. I believe I found your ancestor, Chas Hulsey, in the 1910 Census for Pittsburg Co., which is consistent with where you said he lived, and that he was born in Ark. in 1874, but it listed his wife as Myrtle, born in 1886, and their 3 Children: Julia, Edan, and Charles, born in 1905, 1907, and 1910, respectively. Now as far as info. on John, All I can tell you is that it doesn't seem likely that his father was Jesse, unless he was from a previous marriage, which, no offense, seems to be a consistent pattern among Hulseys. My great-great-great grandfather, Alfred, whose mother was Mary Tharp (I just recently found out her last name--my grandfather only had her written down as "Mary"), only had one brother named Sid, and a bunch of sisters. There was only 7 children from that union, 2 boys and 5 girls. If John was a brother of Alfred, he would be, at best, a half-brother if his father, Jesse, had been married before, but since you said he was born in 1828, and all the children in this marriage were born between 1818 and 1836, then I don't know. He could have been a cousin, too, Jesse did have brothers and sisters. Are you sure John was a Choctaw, or was it his wife? I'm thinking my Alfred was more a Cherokee or a Chickasaw than anything. I don't really know what qualified a person to live in Indian Territory in those days, or even what Nation to live in, but it seems to me you could be perfectly White, and be married to someone who was Indian, to get in (The same way some Mexicans marry white people to get into this country, but enough about that.) Keep in touch.
