Obit - Drexea [Huls] Semple
The following obituary was found in my gr. gr. grandfather's belongings.I have kept it for 12 years not knowing what the connection was to the person.Though the name of the newspaper and the date of printing is not on the clipping, I was finally able to find out the who and where.A long story! She died in Iowa never having children.
MRS. DREXEA SEMPLE
Mrs. Drexea Semple was born in Butler County,
Ohio, February 10, 1826 and died in Wapello,
Ia., July 30, 1894, aged 68 yrs, 5 mos. and 20
days.
She was one of a family of twelve children but
two of whom survive her, Mrs. Jesse Graham, of
this city, and Mr. George Huls, whose home is in
California.
She was united in marriage with James Semple
May 31, 1846.In 1850 Mr. and Mrs. Semple re-
moved to Wapello and have made this city their
home ever since. She united with the Presby-
terian church of Morning Sun in 1852, and was
received by letter from that church in 1856 into
the Presbyterian church of Wapello being one of
the charter members of the present organization.
She remained a consistent Christian to the time
of her death, and passed away trusting in the
Savior whom she had served for almost half a
century.
A sorrowing husbandand a large circle of friends
are left to mourn her loss. All who knew her can
testify "She hath done what she could."
The funeral services were held yesterday at two
o'clock, in the Presbyterian church conducted by
Rev. J. H. [___]dit.
Further researched has revealed to me that this Drexea Huls
Semple had a brother George Huls b. Apr. 1824 in Ohio.George Huls is on the 1860 Preble Co., Ohio census, the 1870 Preble Co.,
Ohio census and the 1900 Cal. census.George Huls mar.
Sarah J. Sample/Semple is 1847 in Oh. George and Sarah had 3 children.Mrs. Jesse Graham was Margaret Huls.Jesse and Margaret had at least four children and lived in Ia.
There may have been a sister Harriet Huls.
I also have some old tin-types and photos taken in Wapello and Morning Sun, Iowa. Some appear to have an American Indian appearance. This is pretty much all I know at this point.Any questions or input on these people would be welcome and appreciated.
