I received this email on 8/20/2008 and thought it should be posted (in its entirety) with this thread:
"Thanks for the kind inquiry -- but sad to say that the information in that post is known definitively to be false. There certainly did exist a Thomas Hull (he was my 3G-Grandfather) and he was married to a Betsie (possibly Elizabeth -- maybe Mary Elizabeth) Cox. I have two biographical sources which support this lineage.
The Thomas Hull in question here is NOT, however, the son of Isaac and Anne (Dunham) Hull from New Jersey as is plastered all over the internet by folks who are a little too hopeful in drawing their conclusions. The Thomas Hull who IS the son of Isaac and Anne was 10 years older than my Thomas and there were far too many Thomas Hull's of that era who migrated west to ever keep track of who the correct one is. The reason I am so confident that my line does not reach back through Isaac/Anne is my participation in the Hull Family DNA project. Through this project and using DNA from myself and other known cousins, we can show definitively that my line does not genetically match the line that comes from known descendants of Isaac/Anne.
The children of Thomas/Betsie listed by Ms. Hollenbaugh in here post are relatively correct -- EXCEPT for her Mary Elizabeth b. 1801. My 2G-Grandfather was Tobias (correctly listed as b. 1803) - but someone has again made a hopeful conclusion that this Elizabeth Hull was married to Henry Weaver. Tobias' sister, Elizabeth, is buried in the Laurel Hill Furnace Cemetery (outside of New Florence, PA) and her stone lists Elizabeth HULL as her name, NOT WEAVER -- further, Tobias' will leaves items to his sisters Elizabeth and Jane Hull who live together as maids -- and even further, there are two biographies that list Elizabeth Hull as sister with no mention of husband. Census records also prove out this fact -- I believe she appears in 1850, 1860, and 1870 as Elizabeth HULL -- not Weaver. If I remember discussions with others back around the time of the posts, I believe this leap of logic was made because there was an Elizabeth Hull who happened to be in the same general geographical area as the women who would later become Elizabeth (Hull) Weaver. I am afraid that I have too much contradictory information to believe that as fact.
Many lineages on the internet try to further the misinformation of the Thomas Hull line of the Ligonier Valley in PA as the son of Isaac and Anne (Dunham) Hull -- I have tried to refute this in every way I can -- but folks still insist on publishing erroneous information. I am very satisfied from the DNA study that there is no way for the two to be connected.
