Cat:I want to thank you again for responding. Here’s the little I have:
This below excerpt is from “The Chronicles of the Scotch-Irish Settlement in VA., 1745-1800. Extracted from Original courthouse records of Augusta County” by Lyman Chalkley -
1st February, 1806. Francis Hull's will--To sons, Henry and Daniel; to daughters, Elizabeth Fulwider, Molly Hanger, Barbara Cook; son, Frederick; daughter, Catherine Wiseman; son, John; daughter, Susanna; windmill to son John. Executors, Daniel Hull, James Harris.
Teste: John and Hugh Daugherty (affirmed); David Byers (sworn).
Proved, 28th March, 1808, by Jno. Daugherty, and 26th April, 1808, by
others. Executors refuse. Administration granted Jno. Hull.
I’m assuming that Francis Hull and Franz Hull are the same person. This shows he had a son Daniel but none David. Now the will wasn’t written until 1808 so I suppose Franz could have had a son David who fathered our David born 1804 and died before the time the will was written in 1808…
1810 Augusta Census: Daniel Hull with 1 male under 10 (our David would have been 6), 2 males 10-16 and 1 male 26-45.There is also a John Hull (son of Franz?) with 2 male under 10 and 1 male 16-26.I suppose David could have been his son as well…
1820 Augusta Census: Daniel Hull with 2 males under 10, 1 male 10-16, (our Daniel would have been 16), 1 male 26-45.
1830 Augusta Census: There is a Daniel Hull with 1 male 15-20 and 1 60-70.There is also a David Hull (ours?) with 1 male 20-30.He would have been 26.
1840 Augusta Census: Our David would have been 36.There is a David Hull with 2 males under 5, 1 male 5-10, 2 males 10-15, 1 male 30-40, and 1 male 60-70.I had assumed this was David’s father. But then I found another elderly Daniel Hull with 2 males 10-15 and 1 male 70-80. I have no idea who he is or where he came from.He wasn’t there in 1830.Maybe he was in someone else’s household.
1850 Augusta Census:David Hull 45 with wife Margaret 48 or 49 (I can’t tell).Your Sarah A. is there at 14.This David has sons David, Daniel, John and Jacob.
I’m not sure what all this means, but if you enter the census information on a blank census sheet it becomes apparent who the father of David could and could not have been. There doesn't appear to be an elder David "Senior" who could have been David born in 1804’s father. To my mind, it had to have been either Daniel or John. My money's on Daniel!
What do you think? :)
