Barry Adage, Barry, Pike Co. Illinois, Thurs. Mar. 13, 1902:David D. Hull's Ninetieth Birthday. His Descendants Celebrate at the Old Home.
Tuesday morning, March 7, the children of David D. Hull assembled at the old home in the northwestern part of Barry township to celebrate the anniversary of their father's birthday.A few years ago they agreed that as long as father was spared to them they would do this.Uncle David, who is one of our pioneer citizens, enjoys these days more than any of the guests. He is now ninety years of age and, having come to this state at the age of eighteen, has been a resident of this community just seventy-two years. He has forty-one living grandchildren and thirty-three great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Wm. Hinch, who lives on the home place, had prepared an elaborate dinner, and the table was laden with good things to eat.Although it was not a wedding dinner, it was superior to any wedding feast ever spread in the neighborhood.
Although sickness and the rain kept some away, those present enjoyed the affair very much. Those present were:Mrs. Green Wagy and children, of Plainville; George Nestrick and wife, of Kinderhook; Smith Hull, of Richfield; John Hinch and wife, Wm. Hinch and wife, Mrs. Dora Staggs and children and A.B. Call and wife, of Barry.
John Schultz and wife were unable to attend on account of the illness of Mr. Schultz.
Uncle Dave is stout and hearty for his age and can make ax-handles, pickets or split wood with any man twenty years his junior. We hope to keep our pioneer citizen with us for many years.
