Perhaps this can help you find you family.Rev. George Hull was a minster to the Friends Society in NY.
REV. GEORGE HULL, general manager of the Friend Sprayer Company, which operates the largest industrial plant at Gasport, N.Y., is an accredited minister of the Society of Friends and conducts the services of the Friends congregation in this village. He is widely known in business circles and enjoys universal confidence, and equally, in all other relations of life, possesses the respect and esteem of his fellow citizens.Mr. Hull was born at North Collins, in Erie county, N.Y., Jan. 191853, a son of Nehemiah and a grandson of Daniel Hull.Undoubtedly the Hull family originated in England, where the name is yet well known, but for generations the American branch has belonged to the Empire state.Daniel Hull, the grandfather of George Hull, lived and died at Glens Falls, Warren county, N.Y., and Nehemiah Hull, his father was born there in 1800, and in 1817 moved to Elba, Genesee county, with an ox-team, in 1822 pushing on into Chautauqua county.Nehemiah Hull resided there until 1841, when he removed to Erie County, where the rest of his life was spent, his death occurring at the age of eighty-four years. To his first marriage five children were born: Sarah, Jane, Mary, Ann, William and Desire. His second marriage was to Hannah Southwick, and they had four children: Ruth, Daniel, Lydia and George.George Hull found his educational privileges in boyhood in the district schools and afterward assisted his father on the home farm; later became a farmer himself and so continued in Erie county until 1891, with the exception of six years lived in Buffalo, N.Y., from 1876 to 1882.In that year he removed to Hartland, in Niagara County, called to the ministry of the Society of Friends there, and he continued this ministry there for four years.Business reasons were largely responsible for the coming of Mr. Hull to Gasport at that time, where, with his sons, he went into the bicycle business, which, of itself must be conceded was a matter of good judgement, as his sons had a natural leaning toward mechanics, and it proved to be a foundation stone upon which has been built a large and flourishing industry, contributing not only to the reputation and wealth of the family but to the added welfare of the whole community. It was in Mr. Hull’s bicycle shop that the device now known as the Friend Sprayer, which is sold in every civilized country, was invented, a large amount of credit for this invention being given to Mr. Hull’s eldest son, the late Warren N. Hull.In 1901 the large plant for the manufacture of the Friend Sprayer was erected at Gasport, where it has become the chief industry, giving constant employment to from 40 to 50 skilled men.The present officers of the company are: C.F. Stout, president, who resides at Olcott, N.Y.; Arthur B. Hull, vice president; John C. Hull, secretary and G. Albert Hull was treasurer as well as general manager. This is a business that has been built up by united effort and honest hard work.
On May 1, 1872, George Hull was married to Juila E. Vogan, a daughter of John Vogan, of Newcastle, Pa. and they have had the following children:Warren N., who died at he age of twenty-nine years; Arthur B. who married Nellie J. Reef and they have three children, Julia M. George H., and Milton A.; John C., who married Laura Shafer, and they have three children, J. Warren, L. Grace and Lina S. Florence, who is the wife of George Reef, who is foreman of the Friend Sprayer works, and they have an adopted daughter Elsie; G. Albert, who married Ethel Brooks and they have two children, Nelson and Helen R.; and Ruth, who is the wife of Corlis S. Harkness, who is a draughtsman for the Friend Sprayer Company. He is an overseas veteran of the World War, having most creditable records of military service in France.
In 1905 Mr. Hull succeeded in gathering together the scattered members of the Society of Friends at Gasport and a permanent church was organized and meetings held for seven and one-half years in the Evangelical church edifice, the congregation under Reverend Hull’s guidance continually being augmented, the membership now numbering 85.A commodious, well appointed church edifice or their won has been recently completed, and it is but one of the many evidences of Mr. Hull’s sincere desire for the welfare of Gasport in a moral as well as material way.
This Biography came from a book written by Edward Williams in 1921 called:Niagara County a Concise Record of Her People and Progress 1821-1921
