There was a Thomas Uland born Hanover cty va 1756, served in the revolution and lived with his family in Halifax county va. Died in 1806. I believe his wife's name was Elizabeth. I have a copy of his signature and it could go either Uland or Huland.

There were several Hulands and Hulens in Granville county nc along the virginia border in that period. Also there was a John Hughland who came over from Germany in the same ship as the founders of the church of Christ, landed in Richmond in 1729, but could be unrelated..
