I haven't verified the "Morton" but at least one researcher shows that as her name.Have you verified it?
Descendants of Robert Hughes
Generation No. 1
1.ROBERT3 HUGHES(DAVID2, JESSE1) died Abt. 1755.He married MARTHA MORTON.She died Abt. 1770.
Notes for ROBERT HUGHES:
It is believed from the published information that this is Robert Hughes, the first of the name, of Hughes Creek, Powhatan County, VA married and left sons and daughters, but no list of them and their marriages is now extant, except as to Robert Hughes, the second of the name above mentioned.By the death of Jesse Hughesin early manhood, leaving infant children, the family Bible and records were lost. Most researchers show Robert as the son of Jessee Hughes, the emigrant but "Genealogy of Judge Robert W. Hughes"prepared by him, shows a son David (or Adam) as the father of Robert Hughes (the first). There appears to be no record evidence that the first Jesse or his son, David (or Adam) ever existed.
Will of Robert Hughes dated 13 July 1750, proved 22 September 1755.Legatees:daughter Sarah Woodson; daughters Mary Walton and Martha Walton; 4th, daughter Susanna Huges, 5th daughter Temperance Hughes, wife Martha; sons Abraham and Robert.(It is shown under the Hughes Family of Powhatan County from Virginia Council Jornals by Fairfax Harrison published in Genealogies of Virginia Families from The Virginia Magazine of History and Biography.Robert Klebs has shown a bit more information on his Rootsweb WorldConnect posting from research of Michael Hughes done in Virginia and posted on Hughes Ancestry.com message board on 30 April 2000 from Will Book 1, Page 105: September 22, 1753 which is different than the September 22, 1755 shown in Genealogies...... but the names are the same.Robert Krebs shows the name of his spouse as Martha Morton.

I hope that this helps someone.
My wife and I just returned from our trip to Prince Edward, Cumberland, Goochland and Appomattox counties in Virginia. Being from Wisconsin I thought that the south would be different. Meaning that I might face some culture clashes. On the contrary, I highly recommend anyone to see the area for themselves, if able. The people were most receptive, helpful and polite. I have to thank all the cousins that came to meet us and show us the, church, graveyard and old Hughes home. As for the home all that stands now is a chimney and foundation with two graves near by, that of William E. Hughes and his daughter. It was a sight and time that will last forever, I just wish I could turn the clock back a few hundred years and talk to them….
Thank you,
Especially Bernard!!!!
