Hughes in Virginia
Using DNA testing, Hughes researchers have identified close to a dozen different Hughes lines who were in the Henrico/Hanover/Charles City County areas in late 1600s and early 1700s.My ancestors were there, close to the James River, but I can't get any further back than about 1690.DNA has proved my family line from Henrico to Buckingham and Albemarle, but now we have thousands of Hughes descendants from this area who cannot figure out their ancestors.
If you are a Hughes descendant and have some research that ties you to the Hughes in this area, please consider DNA testing to help sort out these families. Many of us have years of paper research and thought we knew our ancestors. Most of us have been surprised.Without DNA, you might have picked up the wrong John, Rees, Thomas, Stephen, Edward or William Hughes.Because of missing courthouse records and the alarming number of incorrect family pedigress on the internet and in published family histories, I can say with certainity it is almost impossible to be sure of your research with DNA.
Family Tree DNA has a sale on testing until the end of December 2009.There might be help with funding from other researchers. Please think about it and email me at [email protected] if you need help in placing your order for a DNA test.
Thanks.
